Leaving La Jolla
Well…..my mom got into town yesterday and we have been busy boxing up my entire apartment / life and moving everything into storage. It feels very strange and final….as though a serious chapter of my life has ended. It hadn’t really hit me until now–I have finished my undergraduate university, and am about to permanently leave the place I have called my home for the past 5 years. When I graduated, I was still on campus all the time seeing professors, friends, etc. and I still lived in the same spot, went to the same places, and saw the same people, so it wasn’t as though anything had changed. Now that I am moving, however, it has finally hit……and while I am somewhat sad to be going as I had GREAT times down here…..I am mostly just weirded out about not knowing what the future holds–weather or not I will like China, where I will be going to grad school, what city I will be living in, etc.
It is nice seeing my mom again. I see her only a few times a year now that she has moved to Boulder, Colorado. It is funny to see how much I am similar to her and how different I can be. We definitely do not see eye to eye on many things……while on others our we are exactly the same
Anyway….looking back I found some cool photos that should make you laugh. The first few are from when I was 18 and first moved to San Diego (My first time living away from home). I decided I wanted to do it all on my own and came down to UCSD not knowing anyone and without my parents. It was very strange the first few days and I was really worried that I had made the wrong decision…..but in no time I made some amazing friends and eventually had one of the best years of my life (if not the best).
Me on my first day moving into my dorm room at UCSD (September 2000):

Me and my buddies freshman year raising hell like usual. It is scary how different almost everyone in this picture is now (Me, Meg, Tyler, Drew, Krista, big Mike, and Justin) (Still late 2000):

Some of the crew from E House – John Muir College, UCSD, 200(Tyler, Pauline, Me, Po-Kang, Gitish, and Krista’s hand):

Me and my dad (who has changed a TON) at a laker game in 2002 (When they were still good):

Anyway…..hope I amused you all….back to getting settled here in LA….I leave for Vegas early domani mattina

Really impressed with your site. Interesting images. You will adjust in China as reapidly as you did in school. I believe that the future you have charted is destined to provide you with a successful future. Enjoyed visiting with you and hope to see you again before you depart for the orient.

Fascinating to read that you see us as alike and different in many ways. The differences are obvious and the similarities more subtle for this reporter. What do you see as similarities? I would say: drive, perfectionism, passion, intelligence, creativity, love of adventure and love of Ali G!
Great to be able to read your thoughts and impressions on this blog. You have an eye that misses nothing and a way of expressing yourself that’s precise and evocative.
Looking forward to dispatches from China.
