DVD Shop

I bought my first DVDs from the DVD store today. I got 4 movies for 60 Yuan ($7.50 US). The reason that it was so expensive was that one of the discs was real. Almost all of the discs cost 8 Yuan ($1 US). It was interesting in that all the discs were in little sleeves. They came complete with real DVD artwork and everything. You paid for the discs and could then go test them at one of the DVD checker stations. There were 4 stations set up in a row. You put the disc in the player and a clerk would then get it playing and cycle through the audio tracks and subtitles.

They also had a bunch of movies that were still in the theatres back in the states. I am not sure if these are just low quality video camera recordings or were stolen from the studios…..but I intend to find out ;)

haha, wow. that is so cool. Do they do any tv dvds? like arrested development… or family guy or something? Cause those get SOO expensive here. I saw some things I wanted to send you from here (like a lot of candy) but I wasn’t sure how the mail system was working yet. lemme know

China will have to do something to protect intellectual property rights if they intend to make it with the rest of the developed world.. They pay lip service to combating piracy, but don’t realy do anything about it.

Continue the adventure, one day at a time. How is the language learning coming?

Those DVDs are really cheap and their prints suck big time, they are cheap camera recordings. some of em may be OK.

Rachel…..They have some TV DVDs but I haven’t investigated. I saw Seinfeld and sex in the city, but don’t know how much or what seasons / price. I still don’t have an address, but will get one soon and would LOVE some American candy :)

Jerome……they do nothing to combat piracy. They have no copyright law and it shows. The language learning is coming along quite well. I have recognized a few lines in movies now :)

Rahul……thanks. I bought 40 year old virgin which was in theatres in the states. It is not bad at all. Definitely not as high quality as films that are out on DVD now, but not a camera in the theatre either.
