New DVDs / Site Changes

I just had another DVD shopping bonanza. I love the DVD market here. I wound up spending 800 Yuan ($100) which shocked all my Chinese friends. I wound up getting:

  • 23 Individual movies
  • All 9 Seasons of Seinfeld (42 discs)
  • All the Indiana Jones films (3 discs)
  • All the Godfather films (4 discs)
  • All the Star Wars films (6 discs)
  • All 7 Seasons of Sex and the City(32 discs)

Total – 110 DVDs :) I love China

Also, I made some site changes. I converted my back-end, WordPress, from version 1.5 to 2.0, I added a recent comments feature on the left menu, and I updated my photo gallery back-end. Browse around and let me know if anything doesn’t work or if anything looks strange. Thank you :)

    Thanks Elijah

So sorry to hear that you got so sick and your girlfriend got hurt as well. Not a good week for the both of you. (By the way would love to see a picture of her as well!) Usually Chinese medicine is the best, but coming out of a vile? I would be a little sketched out too! My neighbor got some movies from China and some of them work while other don’t, so just be aware. Also, die Untertitel (subtitles) can be VERY wrong at times. Quite funny actually. Also, make sure they are made for USA players because I know that European DVD’s won’t play on USA players. Just FYI. If you happen to get another set of the whole Seinfeld collection I would completely pay you back and be so grateful if you could get the whole 9 seasons for me! I LOVE SEINFELD!!! By the way I have a girl on my team that is from China and said I should come visit her. How long will you be in China? Maybe I can visit both of you at the same time! So much love and keep safe!

  4. Sara Says:

Yes, I agree with Summer. The American DVDs I took to India wouldn’t play there, the machines said “wrong region.”

Or did you just buy them to watch in China!

    Love, Mom

Wow!!! That is amazing. I want to buy some tv sets here but am reluctant because they are way tooo expensive… lucky dog!
PS… Arrested development still rocks…but another show you may have already seen but if you haven’t should is The Office. US version. Its very funny ;)

Cuidate bien!

  7. Jerome Strauss Says:

Glad you are having fun. Good to be up and around again. Should be hearing from schools pretty soon! I was just advised that my camcorder, which has been in the repair shop for a couple of months is reqdy. $595.00 to fix. Should probably have told them to stop and bought a new HD cancorder. Sony has some nice ones. They have swiitched from CCD’s to C MOSS. Continue to soak up all the culture you can. Shenqui is gorgeous. I am sure you will have a ton of pictures to share.

Less than a $1 a DVD is a good price. I wonder how they do it…oh yeah they RIP OFF THE COMPANY THAT OWNS THE CONTENT! ;)

I have been spending time talking to some of the Chinese telecom equipment manufactures. ZTE and Huawei are two of the largest. I can’t help but think about you as I talk to them.

Hope you are feeling better and looking forward to reading more about your adventures in China.

  9. Andrew Strauss Says:

Summer….picture is on the way……I am aware of all the DVD issues. The good thing is that Chinese people are REALLY honest for the most part, so if the DVD doesn’t work or has the wrong subtitles, I can just take it back for a refund no questions asked. Also, since they are all copied, none of them have region codes. I have my US laptop her so the ones that do have a region code don’t work. I also have a Chinese standalone DVD player which US ones don’t work on….so I know if I have a region encoded disc. I plane to be in China until at least July

    Sara……Come on! You know I know this…..see above :)

Rachel…..Aight….I will see if I can find the office

    John….gracias…..te envio algunas fotos

Jerome…..yeah….schools will start sending me letters at the end of this month. WOW!!!! $595 to fix a camcorder. My new one only cost $300 and it rules! If your current one isn’t HD, I couldn’t see spending so much cash to get it fixed.

Alan…..gotta love the lack of copyright laws here :) What are you talking with Chinese telecom equipment manufacturers about?

  10. Alan Strauss Says:

    AJ:

I buy about a billion dollars of telecom equipment a year. Everybody wants to talk to me – including the Chinese.

  11. Dad Says:

AJ- I am sure you haven’t yet finished all the DVD’s, but I wanted you to know that they just aired the first episode of the new season of The Sopranos. Are you able to get it there?? I heard the episode was phenomenal. Action packed, and left you hanging. Hope that by now you’ve fully recovered your health.

    Love, Dad

  12. Andrew Strauss Says:

Dad…I am nowhere close to finishing all the DVDs!!! T.V. shows are hard to find here. I still can’t believe I found both Seinfeld and Sex and the City. My health is better finally, and the weather is starting to get nice
